How this calculation works
What it does: Calculates an illustrative retirement timeline from your inputs: current age, monthly investment amount, desired monthly retirement income, and the annual return scenario you select.
How: Applies a fixed 4% annual withdrawal rate to determine the target portfolio size, then projects time-to-target assuming a constant, reinvested nominal annual return at your selected rate.
Exclusions: Unless otherwise stated, this calculation does not reflect advisory fees, fund expenses, taxes, inflation, changes in contributions or spending, withdrawals, or other personal circumstances. It assumes a constant annual return and does not reflect market volatility, losses, drawdowns, or sequence-of-returns risk.
